Acupuncture for Chronic
Fatigue Immune Dysfunction
Recently a lecture was given by Mariane
DeVoe Legault of the First Choice Health Center, Beverly, to
the CFIDS (Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction Syndrome)
group at the First Baptist Church, Cabot Street, Beverly on
acupuncture and how it can help relieve pain without side
effects.
CFIDS causes extreme tiredness and
depression ‑ a fatigue and depression that comes on suddenly
and is relentless or relapsing, causing debilitating
tiredness or easy fatigability in someone who has no
apparent reason for feeling this way. Unlike the mind fog of
a serious hangover, to which CFIDS has been compared, the
profound weakness does not go away with a few good nights of
sleep but instead slyly steals a person's vigor over months
and years.
In numerous cases, there is often
unrelentless joint pain and frequent headaches that can
border towards migraine.
Acupuncture helps relieve all pain
symptoms and increases the body's immune system. In the case
of CFIDS, research has found that there are multiple viruses
that reside in the liver that overtake and destroy the
body's defense mechanism.
Acupuncture stimulates and speeds the
body's own healing processes. It is outstanding for its
ability to address the underlying cause of the illness or
pain, not merely its symptoms.
Many countries around the world utilize
acupuncture in their primary health care systems. The World
Health Organization endorses its use as an effective
treatment for numerous illnesses.
In the past, many patients chose
acupuncture as a "last resort" after all conventional
therapies had failed. Awareness of acupuncture's use as a
first recourse for the treatment and management of many
problems has in recent years increased dramatically.
